Why I am a Champion for this Cause
Time in nature is one of the things that grounds me and brings delight and serenity to my life. Connection with nature is one of the main gifts I want to share with my children. I discovered Camp Earth Connection through its Healing Hearts Retreat for women, and then found out about its Village Camp for kids. When my son attended this summer camp, he got to walk like a fox, learn about the 5 needles of the white pine, and have fun playing cooperative games with the other children and the spirited and creative counselors. He also got a great experience forming community. Devoted to “Diversity, Acceptance, Community,” Camp Earth Connection is the only camp I’ve sent my kids to where racial and economic diversity were realized. Counselors support each individual kid, and help them understand each other and become part of a healthy community.
This summer, Camp Earth Connection is offering a summer camp for children who have a parent who is incarcerated. Project RISE (Resilent In Spite of Everything) will bring children in this situation to this great nature camp, and among other things help them realize they are not alone. This camp will be free for the families participating.
How does this happen? How does Camp Earth Connection include children whose families wouldn’t normally think of sending them to camp? Through active fundraising, grant writing, and the active support of individuals who value this.
Please join me in raising scholarship money so these wonderful programs can continue.
